Everything Bagel Biscuits Recipe

The First Bite

I remember the warm smell from my oven. It was a lazy Sunday morning. The scent of garlic and toasted sesame filled my kitchen. I pulled the golden biscuits out, my stomach rumbling. That first bite was pure magic. Ever wondered how a simple biscuit could taste so exciting? The crispy, salty top gave way to a soft, fluffy center. It was love at first taste. I knew I had to share this joy. Now, let me tell you about my first try making them.

My Biscuit Blunder

My first batch was a funny sight. I was too eager and used warm butter. The dough became a sticky mess on my hands. I had to add a lot more flour to save it. The biscuits baked up a bit tough, but still tasty. That mishap taught me a great life lesson. Good cooking, like life, needs a cool head and patience. It is not about being perfect. It is about the joy of creating something real. Now, let’s talk about what makes these biscuits so special.

Flavor Secrets

Two things make these biscuits stand out. First, the everything seasoning creates a crunchy, savory crust. Second, the cold butter creates little pockets of steam. This makes the inside incredibly light and fluffy. It is the best of both worlds. Do you have a favorite savory biscuit or roll? Which flavor combo in the everything blend surprises you most? Is it the poppy seeds or the garlic? Tell me in the comments. The story of this flavor is quite interesting too.

A Pinch of History

The everything bagel is a New York bakery legend. It started in the 1980s as a clever idea. Bakers used all the leftover toppings from other bagels. This created a wildly popular new flavor. Our biscuit is a fun, easy twist on that classic. *Did you know the “everything” mix often includes salt, sesame, poppy, garlic, and onion?* It is a simple way to add big flavor. Your Biscuit Game Just Got a Major Upgrade

Step 1
Mix and Grate. First, heat your oven to 425 degrees. Grab a big bowl for your dry stuff. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Now, get your butter very cold. Grate it right into the flour bowl with a box grater. (A hard-learned tip: Freeze your butter for 15 minutes first. It grates like a dream and stays cold.)

Step 2
Bring It Together. Pour in your cold milk of choice. Use a fork to mix it gently. The dough will look a little dry and shaggy. That is perfectly fine. Turn it out onto a floured counter.

Step 3
Knead and Cut. Knead the dough just 8 to 10 times. Do not overwork it. Pat it out until it is one inch thick. Use a glass or cutter to stamp out your biscuits. You should get about seven.

Step 4
Season and Bake. Melt a tablespoon of butter. Stir in your everything bagel seasoning. Brush this mix over each biscuit top. Bake them for 13 to 15 minutes. They are done when golden. Enjoy that warm, fluffy center.

For drinks, try a crisp, cold glass of orange juice. A light lager or pale ale pairs nicely, too. *Fun fact: The savory spices love a tangy drink.*

Keep Them Fresh & Tasty

Store cooled biscuits in a sealed container. They stay good for two days. I freeze extras in a single layer first. Then I bag them for future meals. Reheat frozen biscuits in a toaster oven. This keeps their outside crisp. Batch cooking? Double the recipe easily. Just use two baking sheets.

Biscuit Troubles? Easy Fixes

Dough too sticky? Add a light sprinkle of flour. Dry dough needs one more tablespoon of milk. My grandkids often add too much milk. The key is to stop kneading after ten strokes. Tough biscuits mean you overworked the dough. Why this matters? Gentle handling makes them fluffy. Have you ever had a biscuit turn out tough?

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Cut cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter, or do what I do and use a box grater to grate butter into the bowl and mash into the flour with a fork.
  4. Slowly pour in your choice of milk while fork-mixing the buttery flour into dough.
  5. Once all the milk has been added the dough will be a little on the dry side.
  6. Knead the dough a few times to evenly distribute the moisture and, if still seriously dry after kneading, feel free to add an extra tablespoon of milk to the bowl. If it’s more on the sticky side, add a light sprinkle of flour before kneading. I typically knead my dough for about 8-10 strokes on a lightly floured surface and then immediately stop manhandling it. Over-kneading can toughen the dough.
  7. Using your hands, flatten the dough onto a lightly floured surface until about 1 inch thick.
  8. Use a 2.5 or 3″ biscuit cutter to cut out approximately 7 biscuits.
  9. Melt a tablespoon of butter and mix in your everything seasoning blend.
  10. If you’re using a pre-made blend, [this] bagel spice blend is absolutely fantastic! If you have the ingredients handy to make your own, go for it! A typical everything blend will usually consist of equal parts dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onion, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and salt. Pretty basic, right? Whether you use a blend or make your own, you’ll have delicious results and endless possibilities for seasoning breads, crackers, and everything in sight!
  11. Let’s get back on track!
  12. Brush your melted butter and everything blend over each biscuit.
  13. Lay flat, spaced, on an un-greased, nonstick baking pan and bake for 13-15 minutes at 425 F until the edges begin to turn golden for crusty outside and a warm, fluffy center; yum!
